Criteria
Solo and small group selections are by invitation. We are looking for the following criteria when selecting a dancer for a solo or small group:
Quickness in picking up and retaining choreography
Accepts corrections well/applies corrections
Strong technique
Flexibility
Musicality and rhythm
Confidence and precision in demonstrating class material (in a group and individually)
Wonderful stage presence - smile!
Excellent work ethic
Positive attitude
Performance in class
Shows an interest in extra practicing and rehearsing inside and outside of regular class time
Willingness to book studio space independently & regularly to rehearse your extra dance (usually on weekends)
Proper attire and respectful attitude
Students who are invited to do a Solo and/or a small group in all genres other than Musical Theatre, Hip-Hop and Acro must be training in a minimum of 6 dance classes/week at Allegro & be in Allegro’s PYP Performing Company.
Musical Theatre, Hip-Hop and Acro Solos/small groups must train in the recommended classes for those genres.
Students must be registered at Allegro (during the same season) for the genre they are being asked to do a Solo/Small group in. Students participating in solos and/or small groups agree to train exclusively with Allegro Performing Arts Centre and are not permitted to perform at Festivals/Competitions, or do continuous training with other studios/companies other than Allegro/PYP.
Some students may have most or all of the above when performing within a group, but are not as confident and precise with the material when performing individually or in a small group. If your dancer is not invited to perform in a solo or small group, this does not mean they are not a great dancer!
